Why We Do What We Do

There is a stigma that art is not useful. We completely disagree.

In cultures all around the world, art has always gone hand in hand with the development of identity and civilization. Art is often an expression of the ineffable beauty of our earthly and spiritual existence, or can be used as a means to transmit commentaries on society, exploring the nuances and evoking reactions in those who engage with it. When we live in a world where imagination is so often traded for materiality, art is there to bring wonder back into our lives.

For those who dedicate themselves to a life of creativity, they are taking a big risk in our current economy. One has to make themselves available for inspiration, a calling which doesn’t necessarily align with the security of a monthly pay cheque. Many artists do not get recognized for the countless hours spent on bringing their inspirations to life and must navigate a strange system that has been established to primarily profit off of their work.

We’d like to help change that.

Our mission is to empower artists, to celebrate their talent, to enable them to make a living from their work and to pay it forward by supporting a charity with a percentage of every sale. This is how we facilitate the power art has to change the World..

How it Works

Here at Sheltered Arts, we have created a unique economy for artists, art collectors and charities alike. Here’s how it works:

When you purchase a piece of art from our online store, or at one of our events, 65% goes to the artist. Next, 10% goes to support an Irish Charity organisation. Each year, we team up with a different charity, to help spread the love around. Finally, 25% goes to Sheltered Arts. This money helps fund our website and our events and allows our dream to keep on growing.
As a non-profit organisation, we value transparency and integrity. We wish to provide a safe and prosperous environment in which art can flourish and everyone benefits, including the most disadvantaged in our societies. This is what we do. This is Sheltered Arts.

Charity

At Sheltered Arts, we love our artists and wish to ensure that they are able to live sustainably from their work.
We also care deeply about the issues faced by many in our society. We believe that creativity is a gift, and what better way to share that gift than to support those most in need?
That’s why each year we team up with a different charity and give 10% of every art sale to support them and the vital service they provide. This year we are proudly supporting Barnardos.

Barnardos’ mission is to deliver services and work with families, communities, and our partners to transform the lives of vulnerable children who are affected by adverse childhood experiences.

Barnardos provides support for children, young people and families in need. They promote and provide assistance towards the education of children and young people in social or economic disadvantage.

Barnardos provides services for and promote and advance the welfare of children, young people and their families whose lives have been affected by economic, social or other disadvantage or loss.
